How to Get Court Records
Every request begins with the right keeper of the file. The Wilbarger County District Clerk holds 46th District Court files. Those include felony, family, juvenile, delinquent-tax, and higher-value civil cases. The County Clerk keeps the constitutional County Court's civil, criminal, probate, and juvenile files. JP1 and JP2 handle justice matters. Vernon Municipal Court handles city citations.
Check re:SearchTX first for eligible integrated material. Then contact the custodian when a case does not appear or a copy is needed. Requests work at the counter, by phone, or by a confirmed mail, fax, or email method. The county pages publish fax numbers. But they do not promise that every request can go through that way. The county offers no single online request form, drop box, subscription, or fixed turnaround. So ask the clerk directly about timing.
- Identify the court and record type.
- Supply the cause number, style, and approximate date.
- Ask for inspection, a docket sheet, selected filings, judgment, or full public file.
- State whether a plain or certified copy is needed.
- Request a fee quote, delivery method, and completion estimate.
Wilbarger Court Record Custodians
Several offices share one courthouse address, but they are not interchangeable. Room numbers make the routing clearer. A request sent to the wrong Wilbarger County clerk may simply get referred elsewhere, which costs you time.

Types of Court Records
A docket or index lists events, nothing more. The full case file may hold pleadings, motions, notices, orders, judgments, exhibits, and public appeal documents. Inspection means viewing an available record. A plain copy just reproduces it. A certified copy bears the clerk's certification for official use.
Ask for the smallest product that answers your question. A docket sheet can show filing and setting history without the cost or privacy burden of a complete file. A selected order may establish the outcome. A certified judgment may be needed when an ordinary portal printout is not enough. The Wilbarger County case search can help you locate a cause before making the request.
- Docket sheet or index
- Petition, complaint, answer, or motion
- Notice of hearing or setting
- Order, judgment, or disposition
- Public exhibit or record on appeal
Six Facts for Wilbarger Requests
A narrow request cuts search time and mistaken matches. Give the court level, cause number, case style, approximate filing or hearing date, exact document type, and desired format. Say whether certification is required. If the cause number is unknown, ask for an index search and a current estimate of the search fee.
A useful opening is: “I request the public docket or record in this court, with this cause number and approximate date. Is your office the custodian?”
Do not send excess personal data by ordinary email. A party name may be needed to locate a file. But a birth date, account number, or license number should be shared only when the court's official process requires it.
What a Court Record Contains
What a file contains depends on the court and the case. A clerk index may show only key fields, while the file holds the public documents behind each event. Treat any inventory of record fields as a general map, since fields vary by case and no cause or party details apply across the board.
| Cause and style | The court identifier and public caption. |
|---|---|
| Court and case type | The tribunal and category that control custody. |
| Filed date | When the cause or document entered the record. |
| Docket events | Filings, notices, hearings, orders, and disposition entries. |
| Documents | Public images or copies available under access rules. |
| Certification | Clerk seal or certificate when requested and paid. |
Private identifiers and restricted filings may be removed, so request the public redacted version rather than an unredacted form.
Historic Wilbarger Court Records
The District Clerk states that its permanent district records date to 1848. They are preserved through microfilm. The County Clerk lists civil court, land, probate, vital, and marriage records from 1900. Those dates describe different series. They do not make one clerk the custodian of the other clerk's files. So route your request by series, not by age.
The District Clerk's official page sets out the office's published role and contact point.

For genealogy or historical work, name the record series and approximate year. Ask whether the record is indexed, microfilmed, scanned, or available only through staff retrieval.
Certified Copies and Fees
Wilbarger County clerks publish no single local copy schedule. The figures below are statutory or statewide baselines, not a guaranteed quote. Before ordering, confirm the number of pages, certification, format, mailing, and any retrieval charge.
| Item | Baseline | Confirm |
|---|---|---|
| District Clerk search without docket number | $5 | Whether a supplied cause number avoids it |
| District certified copy | $5 seal plus $1 per page | Native electronic pricing |
| District electronic copy | $1 through 10 pages, then $0.10 per page | Delivery and media costs |
| County Clerk certified civil copy | $5 certificate plus $1 per page | Current local total |
Inspection and delivery are not the same thing. Ask whether inspection is free and where it happens, then ask whether the office can send a native PDF, a scan, or paper.
Wilbarger Clerk Record Channels
In-person service runs through the proper courthouse room during posted hours. Phone works well for confirming custody, cost, and process. The County Clerk publishes jkennon@co.wilbarger.tx.us. Both clerks publish fax lines. Confirm that email or fax is accepted for your exact request before transmitting it.
The County Clerk's official page lists the local contact and the office's record responsibilities.

For Vernon municipal files, contact Municipal Court at 1306 Main Street or (940) 552-2058. City administrative records go through a separate City Secretary public-information route.
Public Access and Sealed Records
Texas Government Code Chapter 552 sets general public-information policy, but court case files follow court-record law, rules, and clerk custody. Texas Rule of Judicial Administration 12 covers judicial records other than court case records and provides a written request and appeal framework for those records. It expressly leaves access to court case records to other law.
Juvenile, sealed, expunged, protective-order, sensitive family, and restricted exhibit material may require authority or a court order. Ask for the specific rule, statute, order, or custodian decision.
Two sets of rules govern what stays private. Rule of Civil Procedure 21c controls the redaction of sensitive data, and Family Code Chapter 58 sets out juvenile confidentiality along with sealing. A Wilbarger County court docket with a document missing may simply mean the law blocks public view, not that the filing never happened.
Wilbarger County Clerk Offices
Wilbarger County keeps its two main records offices under one roof. They sit in the same courthouse, yet each serves a different set of courts and dockets. Call ahead before you drive over, most of all for an old volume, a certified copy, or a file that staff must pull from storage.
