Search the Vernon Court Docket

Start your Vernon court docket search at the right office. That is the rule that matters most. The Vernon city court holds the dockets for local traffic, parking, ordinance, and low-level criminal cases, while felonies, civil suits, and several other matters filed in Vernon sit with Wilbarger County courts instead. A citation or cause number in hand makes any docket search far easier. Check the office that actually keeps the record, then confirm each court date with that office before you act, since no single Vernon portal gathers every city and county case in one place.

Vernon Docket Search Has No Portal

Vernon's court pages cover procedures, contacts, fine examples, and payment steps, but there is no public case-search screen. Do not expect a city database entry to appear. The Municipal Court directory is the official contact point. The payment page handles transactions only, not a full Vernon court docket.

Best starting point: name the court, give the citation number and printed appearance date, then ask what response is required.

County tools do not close the gap. GovRec belongs to the county justice-court route, and its instructions point to Precinct 2. re:SearchTX is not a complete criminal search either. A missing result never means a charge was dismissed.

When you contact the Vernon office, ask something narrow. Requesting the current setting, a filed plea, a judgment, or payment status gets routed more easily than a demand for every record on file. Need a copy? Say whether it must be ordinary or certified, and ask the current fee. The court can also tell you whether the public file has been redacted or whether an order or rule limits access.

The Vernon Municipal Court

Vernon Municipal Court handles Class C misdemeanors. It also takes traffic and parking violations, animal-control matters, zoning cases, city-ordinance charges, and code enforcement. The city directory names Judge Dianne Gribble and Associate Judge Jerri Kothe. The number is (940) 552-2058.

The office sits at 1306 Main Street, Vernon, TX 76384. Published hours run Monday through Friday, 8:00 to 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Fines and payments are taken from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Call before you travel. City Hall carries a different address, so send court-record requests to Municipal Court.

The official Vernon city information page shows the separate city-administration route. It also gives the Municipal Court contact context.

The city's own page shows why a Vernon court docket request should name the office and the record type. A broad city-wide inquiry just gets bounced around.

Vernon Court Appearance Rules

The date printed at the bottom of a Vernon citation controls your first response. Under the appearance rules, you may act in person or by mail where permitted. A mailed plea must arrive before that date. Juveniles under 17 face extra requirements. So do minors under 21 charged with alcohol offenses.

  • A phone call is not an appearance.
  • A first appearance is the time to enter a plea.
  • Continuances are not granted by phone.
  • Weapons, cameras, recording, food, drinks, gum, and tobacco are barred.
  • Phones and electronic devices must be off.

Vernon asks you to wait five days after a citation before calling, and at least two business days before coming in. Staff need that time to process the case. Neither instruction extends the printed deadline.

Vernon Court Dates and Settings

Check the appearance date on the citation first. Vernon posts no setting calendar that replaces confirmation, so ask what kind of setting it is: an appearance deadline, docket call, pretrial, or trial. Confirm the place and time too. A reset only means the setting moved, not that the case ended.

DateThe printed appearance date or a later date set by the court.
TimeThe confirmed report time or deadline for an allowed mailed response.
LocationVernon Municipal Court unless the court gives another place.
JudgeThe judge assigned to hear the matter.
Setting TypeFirst appearance, pretrial, trial, compliance review, or another event.

Write down when you confirmed the setting. If a later notice conflicts with the citation, call promptly. A silent web search is never a cancellation.

Vernon Docket Plea Choices

The city's plea page lays out three choices. Guilty admits the act. No contest does not contest the charge and will almost certainly end in guilt unless a driving-safety course or probation option applies. Not guilty moves the case toward trial scheduling. No payment screen can make this choice for you.

PleaPublished meaningDocket effect
GuiltyAdmits the actThe court moves toward judgment and ordered terms.
No contestDoes not contestA guilty finding is likely unless an approved option applies.
Not guiltyDisputes the chargeThe court sets a trial.

Ask how and when a plea must arrive. Staff cannot give legal advice. These choices explain why a Vernon court docket may list a plea, a later setting, and disposition as separate events.

Vernon Traffic Tickets

Vernon Municipal Court citations stay with the city. Track them there rather than through the District Clerk. For payment, the payment page accepts Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express, cashier's checks, money orders, and cash. Mail and walk-in payments go to 1306 Main Street.

Two rules matter before funds go out. A cashier's check or money order must match the full amount. It must also cite the citation number. Warrant-status matters get no check at all, per the city. Paying counts as one path and contesting as another. Confirm how a payment affects the plea first. The Wilbarger County traffic court records page sorts out the difference between city citations and justice-court tickets.

Ignoring a ticket invites trouble. Vernon warns of a separate Violate Promise to Appear charge. It also lists a warrant plus fee, collections with a 30 percent addition, and a driver-license renewal hold with its own fee. Only the court can confirm what applies to a given case.

Reading Vernon Traffic Fine Examples

The Vernon fine schedule shows examples rather than a firm quote for every matter. Speeding begins at $150 plus $10 for each five miles per hour over the limit. The school-zone increment adds $25. Other listed examples include $320 for no liability insurance and $170 for a seatbelt violation.

Published exampleListed amount
Unrestrained child$220
Driver-license violation$235
Expired registration$160
Inspection certificate$170
City ordinance violation$180

A surcharge may apply, the city cautions. Court costs, compliance credit, added fees, and warrant status can all move the balance, so verify the final figure with the court.

Where Vernon Cases End Up

A Vernon case can land in several different court dockets. Class C matters and city ordinance violations begin in the municipal court. Tickets, small claims, debt claims, and evictions belong to a Wilbarger County justice precinct instead. The District Clerk takes the weightier files. Those cover felonies, family law, juvenile matters, tax disputes, and civil suits with more money at stake. Records of the Constitutional County Court sit with the County Clerk.

Appeal routes vary by case and by law, so confirm with the city court. A matter filed at county or district level never touches Municipal Court. The Wilbarger County court docket overview helps point you to the right office.

Vernon Deferral and Safety Courses

Deferred disposition in Vernon runs at least 90 days and no more than 180, with costs plus a special expense fee or a cash bond. A construction-zone offense with workers present is excluded, and so are commercial-driver-license matters. Vernon also sets a one-year limit. Eligibility rests with the court.

The safety-course instructions generally call for costs and an administrative fee, a copy of the license, proof of insurance, and a written guilty or no-contest plea within 10 calendar days. Once approved, the course, the certificate, and a certified driving record come due within 90 days. Speeding at least 25 mph over and a work zone with workers are stated exclusions.

Expired documents get their own track. For an eligible document expired fewer than 60 days, Vernon allows correction within 20 business days and a $10 dismissal fee. Anything else requires an appearance within 10 days. Check the current rules for the actual charge.

Vernon Court Versus County JP

City court and justice court both take low-level matters, yet they remain separate systems. A Vernon police citation routed to Municipal Court belongs with the city. A county ticket belongs to its precinct. Wilbarger's GovRec instructions point to JP2. They call for a Criminal Search, name and birth date, court selection, and a guilty or no-contest choice before payment.

The filing court controls the record. Similar charge names do not make dockets interchangeable. Check the caption or citation before picking a portal.

Precinct 1 and Precinct 2 keep distinct contacts too. When the ticket names a justice court, the official Wilbarger Justice page shows that office. JP2 in GovRec is the only online path described in county instructions. That alone is not a reason to pick it. The printed court designation is better evidence of where a case truly belongs.

Public Access to Vernon Court Records

To request a Vernon record, bring the citation number, the party name, a rough date, and a clear description. Sealing, expunction, juvenile limits, and redaction still govern access. A released copy may leave out a birth date, license number, financial data, home address, a minor's name, or other protected details.

Key rules:

Texas Rule of Judicial Administration 12 sets access and appeal procedures for covered judicial records, which differ from filed case records.

Texas Rule of Civil Procedure 21c requires sensitive data to be omitted or redacted from covered filings.

Texas Family Code Chapter 58 governs juvenile-record confidentiality and sealing.

Ask the clerk which rule controls the item you want. For city administrative records rather than case filings, the City Secretary publishes a written public-information route. Skip any private identifiers the request does not truly need.
